The Oblivion of Fear and Darkness

It was late in the afternoon.  The effects of the hot, sweltering sun had finally begun to wear down. I sat by the steps near the front porch, relaxing in the shady portion of the lawn and watched the dim-witted chickens run around the yard as if the world was going to end. The wind began to kick up slightly and it felt cool against my fur that had been enveloping excess heat around me lately. Relaxed, I continued to lick my paw still watching the chickens dance around the outside of their pen.

A cloud appeared in the desolate sky, soon followed by its friends.  They would keep appearing one by one until it seemed no more could fit up there.  I watched listlessly as they seemed to develop personalities and began to bicker and fight with one another. They seemed to growl at each other suddenly and their movements angered the wind so abruptly, it raised the hairs on my back.

The children of the household appeared behind me on the doorstep.  They seemed to be watching the clouds as well.  They too began to run around in chaotic circles, as did the dim-witted chickens.  I did not understand this odd pattern of dance; it confused and enticed me at the same time. In good humor, I copied the dance of these creatures who fed me, for who else was I to follow?

The sky began to turn black and the wind nearly knocked me off my feet.  Finally, the sense of danger overcame me and I continued to ask myself why I hadn't felt it before.  This had happened once before.  Why wasn't it until now that I had brought back the memories?

The wind blew intensely across the field, blowing over the tools that the humans had collected.  The chickens seemed only to float as they tried to run against the current.  I could hear the shrieks and screams from the humans as they rushed about, making me dodge their unforgiving feet.  One of them lifted me into the air as I stared out into the sky, blind of all reality.

A funnel crashed onto land only moments away, forcing the clouded dust up into the air, carving its name into the earth.  It screamed insanities and blocked out all my hearing until everything became one immense blur.  I was jerked around by my owner as I began to descend into darkness.  I stared at the monster that floated down to the sky uninvited as I lost my heart falling into my stomach.  The view slowly faded away as the wooden doors were slammed shut into an oblivion of fear and darkness.

An english assignment. We had to write an essay about a painting in our book called: Tornado over Kansas.

I chose to write it in the veiw point of the black cat in the picture.

Cool, like painting a picture with words.
